PLACL (Poly-L-Lactic Acid and Polycaprolactone) thread lifts at Harley Street Aesthetics Glasgow offer an innovative, minimally invasive alternative to surgical facelifts. This dual-action treatment provides an immediate mechanical lift while simultaneously stimulating long-term collagen production for natural, progressive rejuvenation over several months. All thread lift procedures are performed by our GMC-registered specialists.
PLACL threads are advanced biodegradable sutures made from a combination of Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) and Polycaprolactone (PCL). Once inserted beneath the skin using fine needles, these threads physically lift sagging tissue while their biocompatible material triggers the body's natural healing response, producing new collagen and elastin fibres around the thread. The threads gradually dissolve over 12–18 months, leaving behind a natural scaffold of new collagen that maintains the lifting effect for up to 2 years.
PLACL thread lifts are ideal for patients aged 35–60 experiencing mild to moderate facial sagging who want visible lifting without the downtime, risks, and recovery of a surgical facelift. They are particularly well-suited for patients noticing loss of jawline definition, descent of the mid-face, or early jowling. Thread lifts are not recommended during pregnancy, for patients with active skin infections, or those with bleeding disorders.
Consultation: Your specialist will assess your skin quality, degree of laxity, and aesthetic goals to determine the optimal thread type, placement, and number of threads required.
Treatment (45–60 minutes): Under local anaesthesia, fine needles are used to insert the threads along pre-marked vectors. The threads are gently positioned and anchored to achieve the desired lift. The procedure is performed with precision to maximise results while ensuring patient comfort.
Common temporary effects include minor swelling, bruising, and a sensation of tightness lasting 2–5 days. Some patients experience mild discomfort when opening the mouth wide for the first few days. Rare risks include thread migration, dimpling, infection, or asymmetry — your consultant will discuss these in full and take all precautions to minimise risk.
Most patients can return to work within 1–2 days. The immediate lifting effect is visible straight away, with progressive, natural-looking improvement over the following 2–3 months as collagen production increases. The full effect is typically apparent at 3 months and can last up to 2 years. Sleeping on your back and avoiding extreme facial movements is recommended for the first 2 weeks.
PLACL thread lift pricing starts from £800 depending on the number of threads and areas treated. 0% finance options are available. Pricing is confirmed during your consultation.
